CAPACS Accreditation Review Committee & Site Visit Team Training Workshop at AACS, in Cleveland, OH

The Commission on Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology (CAPACS) will conduct a pre-conference "Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) and Site Visit Team (SVT) Training Workshop" at the 2017 AACS Annual Meeting in Cleveland, OH. The full-day workshop is open to (1) new Commissioners who will be joining the CAPACS Board of Directors, (2) current Commissioners who would like to attend the workshop as a "refresher" course, and (3) doctoral-level members of AACS, and other sociologists, who may be interested in participating on a CAPACS Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) or Site Visit Team (SVT) for reviewing higher education programs in applied, clinical, or engaged public sociology and sociological practice. Those who complete the Commission's training workshop also may be eligible to join the CAPACS Board of Directors at a future date. Activities planned for the workshop include an interactive slideshow, large and small group discussion, and exercise. There is no fee for the workshop. Training materials will be furnished on-site. The pre-conference training workshop will be presented in two sessions: 1:00 - 2:50 pm (part 1), and 3:00 - 5:00 pm (part 2) on Thursday, October 5th, 2017.

Notes:

  • Commissioners, and other interested sociologists, are encouraged to join AACS, and register for the 2017 AACS Annual Meeting before September 15th 2017, to enjoy a generous early-bird discount. Regular conference fees will apply after the 15th. The CAPACS Training Workshop is open to non-members of AACS.
  • Click on the Maps & Transportation web page on the Cleveland Airport Marriott website for information on parking, directions, and bus and rail options to and from the hotel. When booking your reservation, be sure to ask for the discounted AACS group rate. There is complimentary parking at the hotel.
  • The Cleveland Airport Marriott is located near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and is approximately 12 miles from Downtown Cleveland. The hotel provides a shuttle service to Downtown Cleveland for a fee (dial: +1.216.252.5333).
  • Nearby public transportation options include The Cleveland Rapid Transit Red Line. See specifically, the Red Line Schedule, between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (Brookpart-Puritas Station, located 1 mile from the hotel), and various points en route to Downtown Cleveland.
  • Taxi service between the Cleveland Airport Marriott and Downtown Cleveland also is available, and is estimated to be $25-30, each way, for the 20 to 30 minute ride, depending on traffic.
